CHARLESTON, Aug. 23 -- J. H. [sic J. A.] Hightower, 70, of Rome, Miss., was instantly killed last night on the Charleston-Webb highway eight miles west of Charleston.

He, with two nephews, Ira and D. M. Windham, had been to Holcomb to visit relatives, when the driver of the car, D. M. Windham, having driven four hundred miles that day, fell asleep.

The car turned over down a 20 foot embankment, breaking Hightower's neck.

The Windham brothers were cut badly about the face and head. They, with their families of Kilgore, Texas, were visiting their uncle at Rome.

They were brought by passing motorists to Moody's hospital in Charleston for treatment.

The deceased is survived by his widow, an aged mother of Rome, three sisters, Mrs. J. W. Kent, Hollandale, Mrs. A. T. Bell, Greenville, and Mrs. J. L. Windham of Kilgore, Texas.

Funeral and burial were held at Holcomb Sunday afternoon.

GRENADA, Aug. 28. -- Funeral services were held for John A. Hightower, victim of an automobile accident on the Charleston-Webb road, in the Spring Hill community near here.

Mr. Hightower, 70, was killed when his car, driven by one of his nephews, left the highway.

Mr. Hightower was for a long time a resident of Grenada county, living near Nason, southwest of Grenada, and recently moved to the delta, where he was engaged in farming.

He is survived by his widow and mother, of Rome, one son, J. G. Hightower, Vaiden; four sisters, Mrs. J. W. Kent, Hollandale; Mrs. A. T. Bell, Metcalf; Mrs. J. L. Windham, Kilgore, Tex.; and Mrs. A. D. Patterson, Carrollton, and one brother, J. M. Minyard, Holcomb.
