PHILLIPS

In the city of Shreveport, La., at 12:25 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1909, Mr. John A. Phillips, born near Montgomery, La., Dec. 21, 1869, departed this life aged 39 years, 11 months and 2 days.

The deceased was operated on for appendicitis Nov. 17th, but his ailment had progressed so far that there was no hope for him. His brother, Joe E. Phillips, of Mt. Calm, Texas, and also two of his brothers and brother-in-law who live at Montgomery were with him at the time of his death.

Mr. Phillips was married to Miss Minnie Huthnance, by whom he had four sons and one daughter, all of whom survive him, and have the most heartfelt sympathy and condolence of many warm friends.

He was a member of the Woodmen of the World, and was a prosperous and prominent citizen and well thought of in the Montgomery community. His remains were brought home Tuesday evening, and on Wednesday laid to rest in Mt. Zion cemetery in the presence of sorrowing relatives and friends.
