John Albert Hayes, Sr.
TUSCALOOSA -- John Albert Hayes, Sr., age 76, died Dec. 4, 1998
in Roseville, Ca. Services will be held Friday Dec. 11, 1998 at 2 p.m. at
Memory Chapel with the Rev. Vial Fontenot officiating. Burial will
follow in Memory Hills Garden with Memory Chapel Funeral Home directing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clarice May Hayes, in 1980.
Survivors include two sons, John Albert (Shirley) Hayes, Jr.; Richard
Alan (Denise) Hayes, Roseville, CA.; one daughter Karens S. (Terry)
Phillips, Huntsville, AR.; brothers, J.B. Hayes, Jacksonville; Azor D.
Hayes, Woodstock; David L. Hayes, Mobile; two grandsons; five
granddaughters, and a devoted friend ``Crickett'' Hendrix, Decatur.
He was born Oct. 1, 1922 to Albert Carroll and Sarah Ann Hayes. He
was a native of Vance, AL, a graduate of Brookwood High cool [sic School], and a World War II veteran. He was retired from the Empire Coke Company after 41 years in the Purchasing Department. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, and the Singles Four Sunday School Class. He was a life member of the VFW Post #6022, Cottondale, AL. While living and raising his family in Vance, John served on the Vance City Council and was a prior deacon of Vance Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Bob Hayes, Jim Hayes, Carl Hayes Yeager, Joe Hayes, Justin Hayes, and Jason Hayes. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Empire Coke Company, members of Singles Four Sunday School Class, members of VFW Post #6022, his walking ``buddies'' at University and McFarland Malls, employees of GNC stores, and many friends with whom he shared good times and memories. He will be missed.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home.
