Pioneer Dies; Rites Pending

John A. Foster, 74, retired farmer and long-time resident of the state, died Friday in an Oklahoma City convalescent hospital following an illness of nearly five years. Rites are pending at Garrison funeral home.

Foster was a native of Arkansas and came to this state 64 years ago. He lived first on a farm in Hughes county near Calvin and later moved to Indian Territory northwest of Blanchard. He farmed there until his retirement in 1939 and moved to Oklahoma City.

Foster suffered a heart attack in 1948 and had been convalescing in a hospital here since that time. He was a member of the Baptist Church and the Masonic lodge.

Survivors are five brothers, Claude F. Foster, 1118 NW 16; Robert E. Foster, Blanchard; Oliver Foster, 1402 Carlisle court; Martin Foster, Hominy, and Earl C. Foster, Los Angeles, Calif., and three sisters, Mrs. Maud Thomas, Leona, Texas; Mrs. Oma Camron and Mrs. Bonnie Lobdell, South Gate, Calif.

Rites will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Garrison funeral church for John A. Foster, 74, retired farmer and long-time state resident who died Friday in a local convalescent hospital. Burial will be in Blanchard.

Foster was born in Arkansas and came to Oklahoma 64 years ago. He lived first on a farm near Calvin and later moved to a farm near Blanchard. He farmed there until his retirement in 1939 and moved to Oklahoma City. He spent the past five years in the convalescent home here. He was a member of the Baptist Church and the Masonic lodge.
