John Porter, 70, Dies Suddenly Thursday, Sept. 14

John Porter, 70, farmer of Rt. Two, Winnfield, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home Thursday, September 14, 1961. He was a life-long resident of that area and was prominent in the religious life of his community, serving as chairman of the Board of Deacons of the Old Union Baptist Church at the time of his death. He was also a Mason.

Funeral services were conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Old Union Baptist Church with Dr. Roy Norton from Louisiana College officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home.

Acting as pallbearers were Gene Porter, H.K. Porter, John Franklin Creel, Joseph Richard Creel, William Gates, Silas Porter Creel, Denie Herboldshiemer, and Carlton Motsinger.

Mr. Porter is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dochia Dell Miller Porter; seven daughters: Mrs. Sam Gerace, Baltimore, Maryland, Mrs. A.C. Motsinger, Winston-Salem, N.C., Mrs. M.D. Herboldshiemer, Lost Hill, Calif., Mrs. Lewis Dempsey, New Iberia, Mrs. M.M. Parker, Olla, Miss Ray Porter, Shreveport, and Mrs. Silas Creel, Winnfield; 17 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Barbara Rider, Mrs. Lucy Collins and Mrs. Susie Godfrey, all of Monroe.
