John D. Stephens

Funeral services will be held at our Shreveport Chapel on Sunday, October 9, 2005, at 2:00 PM with Rev. Joe Bob Alexander of First Baptist Church of Greenwood officiating. The family will be receiving friends Saturday from 5-8 PM.

Mr. Stephens passed away at his home on October 6, 2005 peacefully. He was born on February 20, 1924, in Wisner, LA. Mr. Stephens served our country in the U.S. Army. He retired from the construction field as an iron worker many years ago, and was a member of the Iron Workers Union Local 591. Mr. Stephens was also an active member of First Baptist Church of Greenwood, and cound be found mowing the lawn each week both there and at the Iron Workers Union. He was a gentle and loving man who enjoyed his family and grandchildren and will be missed very much by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Surviving him is his loving wife of 24 years, Gladys; children: Wayne and his wife Brenda, Jim, Randy and his wife Linda, Marlene and her husband David; grandchildren: Carmen, Michelle, Candice, James, Ryan, Chase, Kaitlyn, Madison; great grandchildren: Greggory and Trevin; brothers: Webster and his wife Ruth, Chris and his wife Elsie; sisters: Annie L., Jeanette and her husband Billy Joe, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be his family and friends.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the building fund at First Baptist Church of Greenwood.

Their deepest thanks goes out to Odyssey Hosptice and their church family for the care and concern given to them over the past few months.
