2 Navy Veterans Killed In Crash

Pete Emmons and Earl Staten, Jr., of Holcomb, Die In Plane Accident.

Two 18-year-old Navy veterans were killed shortly after dark yesterday near Cascilla when a plane owned by one of the victims went out of control. The accident occurred 9 miles west of Grenada.

The dead are: Earl Staten, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Staten of Holcomb and Pete Emmons, son of Mrs. John Emmons, also of Holcomb.

The plane was owned by young Staten and he was accompanied by Emmons. Both the young Navy veterans lived in the same neighborhood. Both were killed instantly. The plane did not burn following the crash.

The body of young Emmons was brought to Williams Funeral Home here to be prepared for burial. Funeral arrangements are still incomplete.

He is survived by his parents and the following sisters and brothers: Miss Ruth Emmons, Miss Mary Emmons, Miss Arlvie [sic Arlgree] Emmons and Archie Emmons and Blanton Emmons.

The body of young Staten was carried to Grenada where Garner Funeral Home will have charge of funeral arrangements.
