John David Slay
Opelousas-Funeral Services for Mr. John David Slay, age 44, were held at 10 a.m on Tuesday, June 20, 2006, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel and burial followed in the Bellevue Memorial Park. Rev. Roy Baker officiated the services.
Mr. Slay was a resident of Opelousas and died on Saturday, June 17, 2006, in Opelousas. He was a machinist for many years and was employed by Eaton Oil Tools. Most of all, his life was his family and he loved to gather them together for a backyard Bar-B-Que. John was a loving husband, father, son, and grandfather. He enjoyed restoring automobiles and fishing with his friends.
Survivors include his wife, Amy Ortego Slay of Opelousas; two daughters: Desireè Slay Montecino and husband, Carl of Church Point; and Jessica Slay and fiancé, Blase Allemond of Opelousas; his parents: Kenneth and Lilly Grivette Slay of Olla; one brother, Mark Slay and wife, Barbara of New Iberia; two sisters: Cindy Slay and Melissa Nagler and husband, Tommy, all of Olla; five grandchildren: Devin and Jaylynn, both of Church Point; Skylar, Cashman, and Nayson, all of Opelousas; father-in-law, Mervin Joseph Ortego of Opelousas; two nephews: Thomas and Bradley Nagler of Olla; one niece, Heather Nagler of Olla; and a host of friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by grandmother, Myrtle Slay and mother-in-law, Bessie Louise Miller Ortego.
Visitation began on Monday, June 19, 2006, at 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Tuesday, visitation continued from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
A Rosary service was held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas, La.
