John E. Rolen

John E. Rolen, 43, of Pineville, a native of Sabine Parish, was shot and killed Wednesday, June 3, by his 14 year old son, John Keith Rolen, according to Rapides Parish Sheriff, Marshall T. Chappel.

Chappel said the shooting occurred at the Rolens' home, about 9 p.m., during a family argument.

Rolen was a representative of A. J. Nystrom and Co. of Chicago, Ill., which sells maps, map supplies, and globes to schools.

Rolen was shot once with a 12 gauge shotgun, and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Rapides Coroner, according to Chappel. He died instantly.

The sheriff said the boy was arrested, and then released to his mother on a custodial agreement. He added that formal charges by the district attorney are pending.

Funeral services for Mr. Rolen were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, in the Pineville Park Baptist Church. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Aurelia E. Rolen of Pineville; two sons, John Keith Rolen, and Brian Kent Rolen, both of Pineville; three daughters, Misses Rhonda Joy Rolen, Lana Lea Rolen, and Sandra Beth Rolen, all of Pineville; two sisters, Mrs. Billy Jean Stuart of Huntington Beach, New York, and Mrs. Betty Jane Lapeyrouse of Thibodaux; and his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. John Oscar Rolen of Many.
