John E. Laird Services Monday
Was Long-Time State Employe

Funeral services for John E. Laird, chief engineer of state-owned buildings in Jackson, will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday from Wright and Ferguson chapel, with the Rev. Percy Magee of Vaiden, the Rev. Robert Lowe of Scotland, Miss., and the Rev. Daniel McGregor, pastor of the Byram Baptist church, officiating.

He died early Tuesday night after suffering a heart attack Monday night.

Mr. Laird was 60 years of age and lived at 145 Adams Street. He was a native of Lincoln county, but had lived in Jackson for 40 years. He had been engineer at the New Capitol for 33 years, later assuming the duties he held at the time of his death. He was a member of the Baptist church.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J. E. Magee of Jackson and Mrs. Victor Foster of Winn, Arkansas; three step-daughters, Mrs. Clyde Woods, Jackson, Mrs. J. B. Marble and Mrs. Tom Lockhart, both of Lake Charles, La.; a stepson, E. S. Bazoon, Jackson; a brother, Oscar Laird, Shreveport and a sister, Mrs. O. C. Moffett, Bogalusa, La., and a half-sister, Mrs. W. H. Campbell, Palatka, Fla.

Pallbearers named are Heber Ladner, J. V. Carr, A. F. Elmore, John P. McDonald, J. B. Walker, J. F. Naugher, Steve Lewis, Gene Craig.

Honorary pallbearers are Rev. Henry Joe Bennett, Gov. Fielding Wright, Hugh White, Carl Craig, E. J. Interment will be made in Lakewood Memorial Park.
