Funeral Services For J. E. Fountain Sunday Afternoon

Despite rain and disagreeable weather, a large gathering of relatives and friends from Columbus, Reynolds, as well as local residents, gathered at the Butler cemetery Sunday, 6 p.m. to pay their last respest [sic respects] to Mr. John Edgar Fountain, 77, who died in a Sumter county hospital after a week's illness from pneumonia.

Mr. Fountain was born and reared in this county, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack Fountain and resided in the county until about 25 years ago when he moved to Milledgeville where he and his daughter, Miss Edith Fountain had since resided.

Surviving the deceased besides his daughter are three sons John M. Fountain, Tacoma, Wash., Aline Fountain, Albany and Edgar W. Fountain of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters, Mrs. E. A. Hollis, Reynolds, and Mrs. Annie Smith of Geneva.

Final rites for Mr. Fountain were conducted here by Rev. J.M. Carmichael, pastor of the local Baptist church and Rev. Moore of the Milledgeville Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were: Messrs. Jack Joel and James Hollis of Reynolds; George Hammack and Tom Fountain of Butler.
