John Edwin Connell Expires at 63

Funeral services for John Edwin Connell will be held at noon Saturday at the Leitz Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veteran's Memorial Highway.

Interment will be in Metairie Cemetery.

Mr. Connell died Wednesday at 8:28 p.m. at Baptist Hospital, following a lengthy illness. He was 63.

A native of New Orleans, Mr. Connell went to work for the Southern Cotton Oil Co. -- Gretna Branch -- at the age of 14 as an office boy. He remained at the company for 48 years, and became controller and assistant secretary of the company.

He was a member of and held several offices in The Tax Executives Institute, and was a member of the National Association of Accountants.

Mr. Connell was made Honorary State Comptroller in 1971, appointed Colonel on the staff of Gov. Edwin Edwards in 1972, and Honorary State Senator in 1972.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Marjorie De Laria Connell; two daughters, Mrs. Donald F. Ward and Mrs. Timothy E. Hollis; and one son, James J. Connell.

Also his mother, Mrs. James Ruby Telotte Connell; one sister, Mrs. George Fruchnicht; four brothers: Edwin E., Lee R., Cornelius R. and Ralph F. Connell; and five grandchildren.
