John F. Helms Claimed By Death

MAXTON -- John F. Helms, 52, died early Saturday morning in the Scotland County Memorial hospital, where he had been seriously ill of coronary thrombosis for about a week. The body was carried to his former home in Americus, Ga., where funeral services were held Monday.

Mr. Helms came to Maxton in 1941, and was in charge of maintenance of grounds and roads at the Laurinburg-Maxton Army Air Base during the war. Since the war he has been agent for the Charlotte Observer in Maxton and at Skyway Terrace. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Thomas and Robert, four brothers and a sister.
