Wednesday Rites Are Scheduled For J. H. Cockerham
J. H. Cockerham, 86, who had resided in
Ellis County since 1912, died yesterday
afternoon at his home south of Waxahachie.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m.
Wednesday at the Rudolph Chapel of the Chimes
with Rev. T. Hollis Epton, pastor of the First
Baptist Church, and Rev. A. B. McCown of
Red Oak officiating. Burial will be in
Hillcrest Burial Park with graveside services being
held by Masonic Lodge No. 90.
Mr. Cockerham, who was born at Winfield, La.,
on March 11, 1870, moved to Collin County, Texas, in
1910 and then to Ellis County in 1912. A retired
farmer, he was a member of the Baptist Church and
of the Masonic Lodge No. 90.
Survivors include his widow; several sons, Joe E.
Cockerham of Milford, Lee Cockerham of Itasca,
Dewey Cockerham of Avalon, Lawson and Wallace
Cockerham, both of Red Oak, Odis Cockerham of
Lancaster and Boaz Cockerham of Waxahachie;
a daughter, Mrs. J. E. Upchurch of Sardis; three
brothers, Manuel and Clarence Cockerham, both of
Louisiana, and Joe Cockerham of Waxahachie; 45
grandchildren and 75 great grand-children.

H. Cockerham, 85, Native of Winn, Dies In Texas
Henry Cockerham, 85, native of Winn Parish and long time resident of
Waxahachie, Texas, succumbed in Texas late Monday. Funeral services were held
in Waxahachie Wednesday.
He was a retired farmer.
Mr. Cockerham is survived by his wife, Mrs. Viola Camp Cockerham of
Waxahachie; one daughter, eight sons, 47 grandchildren, and 63 great
grandchildren.
He also left three brothers, Manuel Cockerham of Calvin, Clarence of
Winnsboro, and Joe of Waxahachie.
Attending the funeral from Winnfield were Chester and Albert Camp, nephews,
and Mrs. W. C. Johns and Mrs. John Barrett, nieces, of the deceased.
