J. H. Whittington Dies at Hospital
John H. Whittington, 73, 602 1/2 East Mulberry street, died at 11 a. m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's hospital of a complication of diseases.
The body was removed to the Beck memorial home where services will be at 2 p. m. Thursday. The Rev. Loyal M. Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Park Hill cemetery.
Mr. Whittington was born at Canton, Miss., Dec. 12, 1867. He married Miss Mary Louise Snyder, May 23, 1888. The couple celebrated its golden wedding anniversary in 1938. Mr. Whittington was connected with the Ft. Worth and Denver railroad in Ft. Worth, Tex., before moving to Bloomington in September, 1902.
Mr. Whittington was master painter of the Chicago and Alton railroad until retirement five years ago after 35 years of service.
He was a member of the First Methodist church, Wade Barney lodge No. 512, Knights of Pythias and Order of Eastern Star, Keystone chapter 619.
Surviving besides his widow are Mrs. Harry Iungerich, Los Angeles, Calif.; John Whittington, Dallas, Tex.; Mrs. John Marinchek, Chicago; Roy Whittington, Milwaukee, Wis.; Mrs. Leland Sherrill and Mrs. William Merna, Bloomington.
The following brothers and sisters survive: Mrs. L. G. Johnson, McComb, Miss.; Mrs. Mary Dalton, Memphis, Tenn., and Benjamin Whittington, McComb, Miss.
There are also 12 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
