CORLEY -- Suddenly in Lake Charles, La. about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 1934. John Homer Corley, age 55 years. Deceased in survived by his wife, Mrs. Mattie Corley, three children, Lester Corley, Winnfield, La.; Mrs. Leon Odom, Lecompte, La.; Mrs. Mattie May Singletary, Sulphur, La.; and the following brothers and sisters: I. A. Corley, Mansfield, La.; W. P. Corley and Dr. W. B. Corley, Alexandria; Mrs. Wesley Gates, Little Rock, Ark.; Mrs. M. L. Gates, Oakdale, La.; J. M. Corley, El Dorado, Ark.; J. L. Corley, Winnfield; Mrs. Ed Scarborough, Ruston, La.; A. E. Corley, Oakdale; Miss Maude Corley, Oakdale; C. R. Corley, Lake Charles, and his mother, Mrs. J. F. Corley, Oakdale.
Mr. Corley was born November 25, 1878, near Pollock, La. in Grant parish. His father died in Oakdale, May 24, 1932. He was in charge of the automobile licenses bureau at Lake Charles.
Funeral services were conducted at the family residence, 908 Cleveland street, Lake Charles, at 1 p.m. Sunday, September 2, with Rev. T. V. Herndon, pastor of the Trinity Baptist Church, of which he was a member, officiating.
The procession left Lake Charles and came to Greenwood Memorial Park, Pineville, where the Oakdale Yellow Pine Lodge No. 282, F. & A.M. had charge of the Masonic services. Dr. Carl A. DeVane, pastor of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Alexandria, conducted the concluding services at the grave.
Pall-bearers were: E. D. Ardoin, W. G. Freeman, P. J. Schempp, S. D. Marler, J. P. Kennedy and D. C. McFatter, all lodge members at Oakdale. Mr. Corley had lived in Lake Charles about three years. Interment was made in Greenwood Memorial Park under the direction of J. E. Hixson and Son, Lake Charles funeral directors.
