J. I. Underwood

Funeral services were scheduled for 3:30 p.m. today for John Irvin Underwood, 87, of 322 Bawcom St., West Monroe, who died Thursday afternoon at St. Francis Hospital after a long illness.

Officiating at Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe was to be the Rev. Vester Headrick, with burial to follow in Hasley Cemetery.

Mr. Underwood was a native of Sikes and had lived in West Monroe since 1953. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Marie Pardue Underwood of West Monroe; six sons, Woodrow Underwood and Marshall Underwood, both of West Monroe, Quillie Enderwood [sic Underwood] of Monroe, Monroe Underwood of Baton Rouge, Tommy Underwood of New Orleans, and F.N. Billy Underwood with the U. S. Navy in Hawaii; two daughters, Mrs. Alton Chisholm of Highlands, Tes., and Miss Faye Underwood of West Monroe; a half-brother, Lonnie Underwood of Delhi; a half-sister, Mrs. Mary Smith of Monroe; 23 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
