John L. Campbell

John L. Campbell, 85, of Brookhaven, died of cancer Oct. 6, 2001, at his residence.

Visitation is 4-9 tonight at Harrigill Funeral Home in Brookhaven, and 8 a.m. Wednesday until services there at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Riverwood Cemetery.

Mr. Campbell was born Sept. 9, 1915, in Amite County. He was the son of Jesse Campbell and Clara Causey Campbell.

He was a retired Mississippi state highway patrolman, where he served for 24 years. He was a member of Brookway Baptist Church and was a Mason and Shriner. He was [a] former city election commissioner and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II.

Mr. Campbell was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathleen H. Campbell, who died June 12, 1991; four brothers, Hubert, William, Ross and Robert Lee Campbell; and two sisters, Mary Brumfield and Reba McElveen.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Jack Asken of Brookhaven; a brother, Delton Campbell of East Fork; a very special friend, Carolyn Easterling of Brookhaven; and two grandchildren, Kathy Asken of Clinton and Kristy Asken of Jackson.
