FERRIDAY -- Funeral services were to be held today at 10 a.m. at the Young's Funeral Home chapel here for John Marable McCarty, 70, of Clayton.

Mr. McCarty died Tuesday morning at the Catahoula Parish Hospital in Jonesville following a lengthy illness.

The Revs. Russel Nelson and O'Dell Smith were to officiate at services with burial following in Highland Cemetery at Sicily Island.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Clara K. McCarty, Clayton; four sons, Marrable [sic Marable] D. McCarty, Atlanta, Ga., Bobby Frank McCarty and Alton Gene McCarty, both of Houston, Tex., and Glenn McCarty, Newellton; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Lee Metcalf and Mrs. Lucille Brooks, both of Clayton, and Mrs. Laverne Butler, Tallulah; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Skipper, Tonakawa, Okla., Mrs. Maude Stegall, Bridge, Tex.; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
