Mr. Dyess
Mr. John Maurice Dyess, 70, of Steephollow, died Wednesday. Services will
be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Callaway-Jones Chapel, with the Revs.
Frank Matthews and Bennie Griffin officiating. Burial is to follow
in Steephollow.
Mr. Dyess was born June 11, 1910 in Brazos County and was a lifelong
resident. He owned and operated the Dyess Nursery until his retirement,
and was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge No. 64, Cedar Creek Lodge
No. 300 of A.F. & A.M., and was a deacon at Steephollow Baptist Church.
He was also a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ina Powers Dyess of Steephollow; a
daughter, Mrs. Mary Alice Deegan of Elon College, N.C.; two brothers,
G.S. Dyess and J.L. Dyess, both of Tyler; a sister, Mrs. Flo Mitchell
of Siloam Springs, Ark.; three grandchildren and a great granddaughter.
