Services for J. M. Emmons Held Friday

John Morris Emmons, 76, died at his residence in Carthage Thursday following a lengthy illness. A retired merchant, he was a graduate of Northwestern College, Natchitoches.

Mr. Emmons was principal in the Plain Dealing, La. school system for three years, was organizer and cashier of Bossier State Bank for 17 years, and was with the Internal Revenue Service for six years. He opened the Emmons Variety Store shortly after moving to Carthage in 1947, and operated the business until his retirement in 1958. Active in church work, he was a lifetime deacon of Central Baptist Church, where he had served as deacon for 17 years.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Central Baptist Church. Ministers were Dr. V. L. McKee and Rev. Bryant Young. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Bossier City.

Survivors include his wife of Carthage; three sons, Roy, Philip, and Glynn, all of Shreveport; two daughters, Mrs. W. C. Hebert, Carthage, and Mrs. M. E. Smith, Monroe, La.; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and three sisters.

Pallbearers were Murrell Emmons of Ruston, La., Jack Emmons of Ruston, La., S. R. Emmons of Baton Rouge, J. H. Newsome of Lake Charles, Lamar Crain of Shreveport and Hebert Womack of Chatham, La.
