J. Morris Emmons, Brother of Mrs. Kidd, Sikes, Dies

John Morris Emmons, 76, of Carthage, Texas, former resident of Winn Parish, passed away Thursday, March 26, at his home. He was the son of the late Rev. and Mrs. L. D. Emmons.

Mr. Emmons went to school at Gaars Mill, attended college at Northwestern, and taught school for several years in South Louisiana. He owned a drug store in Winnfield for several years and later went to Bossier City where he was president of the Bossier State Bank for several years. He moved from Bossier City to Carthage, Texas where he had a variety store until he retired a few years ago.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Carthage Friday with burial in a Bossier City Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hattie Emmons of Carthage, Tex.; five children, Mrs. Buster Hebert of Carthage, Mrs. Earl Smith of Monroe, Roy and Bill Emmons of Shreveport, and Glenn Emmons of Bossier City; three sisters, Mrs. G. C. Kidd of Sikes, Mrs. Troy Newsom of Lake Charles, and Mrs. Merdie Woodbridge of Tyler, Texas; and six grandchildren. He was the uncle of C. H. Crain, Mrs. Harvey Cockerham, and Mrs. A. N. Cleary of Winnfield.
