John (Pat) Overend
John (Pat) Overend died Thursday, March 17, 2005.
Born March 28, 1917 in Hallock to Kenneth and Grace Overend, he grew up in Hallock and graduated from high school there.
He married Juanita Rae Jones in 1937. John served in the U.S. Army in 1940 and was a Captain with the Army Air Corps during WWII; flew over “The Hump” on many successful missions throughout war; after war went on to fly top executives for Super Valu, Inc. out of Minneapolis.
He retired in 1979 and moved with his wife to Naples, Fla. Juanita died January of 1986. In 1996 he moved to Tucson, Ariz. He had a stroke there in January 1998 and moved to Hallock early March to the nursing home.
He is survived by one sister in law, Mary Jean Overend, and nine nieces and nephews: Mac Erickson, Karen Thieme, Sandy Olsonawski, Terry Lambert, Peggy Propson, Mike Overend, Kathy Overend, Mary Overend, and Tim Overend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Juanita, his sister Jean, his brothers Bob and Tom, his nephew Pat.
Funeral services were Monday, March 21, 2005, 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Hallock.
Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wiggins, Miss. Rev. Timothy Noah presided and Sharlene Klegstad, organist.
Pallbearers were Levern Klegstad, Tom Klegstad, David Fertig, Larry Olsonawski and Mark Propson.
Adamson-Austin-Hughes Funeral Home, Hallock was in charge of arrangements.
