John R. “Bob” Doucet
March 11, 1927 - May 4, 2013

John R. “Bob” Doucet, age 86, died May 4, 2013 at Heritage Manor in Baton Rouge. He was born March 11, 1927 in Grand Prairie, LA to the late Zella Elliott and Lastie William Doucet. Bob was a WWII Navy veteran, and graduate of SLI (now University of Louisiana Lafayette) where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Horticulture in 1950. He was the former co-owner of Capital Garden Center, a member of Woods & Waters, and an avid LSU fan.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Yolanda Thibodeaux and Claude Zimmerman; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Roy and Mildred Z. Martin, Velma Z. Narramore, and William L. Fowler. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 63 years, Betty Zimmerman Doucet; daughters, Susan Doucet Davis and husband Ronnie of Baton Rouge, and Nancy Doucet of Dana Pointe, CA; 5 step grandchildren; 13 step great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Thelma Z. Fowler of Lafayette; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be observed Tuesday, May 7, 2013 from 12pm until the Funeral Service at 2pm at Greenoaks Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Bill Brewer. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Ryan Brignac, Lyle Brignac, Dan Ducote, Karl LeBlanc, Ronnie Davis and Randy Paul. Honorary Pallbearers will be Earl Fontenot Jr., Billy Fontenot, Billy Fowler and Odrie Ortego.

The family would like to thank the 2nd floor staff at Ochsner Medical Center, The St. Joseph Hospice Carpenter House, doctors and nurses at Baton Rouge General, the wonderful administration, staff and residents of Heritage Manor: Queen Williams, Alice Williams, Keri Craig, Stella Caldwell, Rameka Gray, Latoya Campbell, Ingrid Thomas, Tonja Hayes and Kimberly Carr, and Hospice in His Care: Yvonne Joiken, Samantha Robinson, Alfreda Carmouche and Rev. Bill Brewer.
