Ex-Grocery Dealer Dies
A prominent retired grocery merchant of Laurel, John Roy Montgomery, 66, 728 10th Ave., died Wednesday morning in a Laurel hospital after a lengthy illness. He was a longtime owner of the Sanitary Market and Grocery on 10th St. and retired in 1958 due to ill health. He was born in Jones County, the son of the late Jesse A. and Isabelle H. Montgomery.
He was a member of the Parkview Baptist Church; a member of the Lions Club until he resigned due to his health, and a member of the D.O.K.K. of the Knights of Pythias.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home with the Revs. Gary Divine and George Reddin officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Cemetery.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Grace H. Montgomery; two brothers, Arthur L. Montgomery and Farve A. Montgomery, both of Laurel; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Grant and Mrs. Verda Henderson, both of Laurel; and a number of nieces and nephews.
