JOHN RUSS HAWKINS

FERRIDAY, La. -- John Russ Hawkins, 51, of Ferriday, died in the Concordia Parish hospital here Friday after a short illness. He was a native of Caldwell parish and had been a resident of Ferriday for 20 years.

He was a veteran of World War II and had been employed by the Louisiana Department of Public Works for 22 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church here.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church, with Rev. M. H. Fields officiating, assisted by Rev. Milton Williams. Burial will be in the Columbia Hills cemetery at Columbia under the direction of the Comer Funeral Home of Ferriday.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Norma Staples Hawkins of Ferriday; two daughters, Mrs. Jean Griffin of Erlangen, Germany, and Miss Mary Jane Hawkins of Ferriday; a son, John Russ Hawkins III of Ferriday; a sister, Mrs. W. E. Meredith Jr. of Wisner; and a grandchild.
