John Swenson, Lifelong County Resident, Dies

John Swenson, 65, lifelong resident of Buffalo County, died Sunday after a long illness.

John, son of John and Miranda Powers Swenson, was born at his father's ranch near Sartoria. John and Cora Ferrel were married December 16, 1920 at Boise, Idaho. They then made their home at Arnold, Nebraska where John was associated with the local bank. After the death of his father, John returned to Sartoria and was a rancher and cattle feeder in the area all of his life. For the past six years, he had made his home at the Fort Kearney Hotel.

Mr. Swenson was a member of the St. Luke's Episcopal church; Rob Morris Lodge No. 46, AF and AM: the Lincoln Consistory; Sesostris Temple, Lincoln, and Rex Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, in Arnold. He received the 1960 award for outstanding conservation work awarded by the Buffalo-Ravenna Soil Conservation District.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Coralie Metzler of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and one granddaughter, Julie. Mrs. Swenson died in 1943.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. Luke's episcopal Church, with Farther Richard miles officiating. Burial will be in Kearney Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Barlow Nye, Bob Hunter, Kenneth Hendren, Harold Arp, Dale Riessland and Paul Franke.
