John T. Green

NATCHEZ -- Services for John T. Green, 87, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at Promise Speciality Hospital in Ferriday, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, from Trinity Episcopal Church in Natchez.
Burial will follow in the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service on Friday at Kuehnle Hall at Trinity Church.
Mr. Green was born April 16, 1918. During his early youth he moved to Natchez. Green received a number of degrees, including a bachelor of arts degree from Louisiana State University, a LLB degree from the University of Richmond and a master's in law from Georgia Washington University. He was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 1948 and the Mississippi Bar in 1949.
Mr. Green served 21 years in the United States Navy, including active duty in World War II and the Korean War. During World War II, he was commanding officer of several vessels in the South Pacific. In the Korean War, he was captain of a landing craft and assistant legal officer to the commander of Amphibious Forces of the U.S. Pacific Fleet. After the Korean War, he was commanding officer of the local Navy Reserve Service Division at the Duncan Park Armory, where he oversaw more than 100 center members.
Mr. Green was a member of the Adams County, Mississippi and Virginia Bar associations. He was former commissioner of the Mississippi State Bar Association and former president of the Adams County Bar Association.
During the 1960s, he served four years on the Natchez Board of Aldermen. He also was a member of the Natchez Water Board and on the Board of Directors of the United Mississippi Bank. As a long-time member of Trinity Episcopal Church, he served on the vestry and was senior warden.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ann Young White; father, John Taylor Green; his sister, Bettie Brasfield; and his first wife, Lucy Green.
He is survived by his wife, Kate Don Green of Natchez; a daughter, Ann Green Carver and husband Ven Carver of Raleigh, N.C.; four stepchildren, Katie Watson of St. Joseph, La.,Lawrence Adams of New Orleans, Anna Williamson of Natchez, and Brandon Adams of Mobile, Ala.
Pallbearers will be Adrian Sandel, Adam Nations, Payton Gore, Hayden Kaiser III, William C. McGehee Jr., Charles W. Caldwell Jr., Bruce Kuehnle and Robin Punches.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Netterville, Cecil Gill Smith Jr., James Biglane, James W. Crawford, John W. Christion, Richard M. Durkin, Charles Laird, Stanley E. Burkley,the officers and board of directors of United Mississippi Bank and members of the Adams County Bar association.
