John “Truman” Fitzgibbons, age 92
John Truman Fitzgibbons went to be with the Lord, peacefully early Saturday Morning, 10-02-2010 at Oconee Regional Hospital in Milledgeville GA after a brief illness. He was born 09-11-1918 in Longton Kansas to John Grover Fitzgibbons and Leona Whitmer Fitzgibbons. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Fitzgibbons of Elk Grove CA; his parents, one sister, Melba Fitzgibbons Sartin of Cedar Vale KS; two brothers, George Etheridge Fitzgibbons of Macon GA and Romine Fitzgibbons of Downey CA.
He is survived by one daughter, Trudy Fitzgibbons Foster of Brentwood CA; two grandchildren Dennis Foster of Norwalk CA and Sandie Foster Hischier of Brentwood CA; 4 nephews, Ronald Sartin of Cedar Vale KS; George Etheridge Fitzgibbons of Jasper GA; Todd Dean Fitzgibbons of Macon GA, and Stephen Gregg Fitzgibbons of Macon GA; 5 nieces, Janice Sartin Parent of Branson MO, Connie Fitzgibbons Kaye of Tampa FL, JoEllen Fitzgibbons Hurt of Cartersville GA, Judy Fitzgibbons Carswell of Macon GA, and Susan Fitzgibbons Abernathy of Macon GA; four great grandchildren and a host of great nieces and nephews.
In 1939, Truman enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving his country proudly in World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He loved traveling, especially cruises, and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. Nothing gave him more joy than spending time with family, reminiscing about family times spent in Longton KS or planning the next fishing or family outing at his home on Lake Sinclair in Milledgeville GA. He truly enjoyed life to the fullest and was loved and endeared by all who knew him.
The Fitzgibbons' family would like to thank the staff, doctors and nurses at Oconee Regional Hospital, Heritage Health and Rehabilitation of Toomsboro GA, and all the staff and residents at Stone Brooke Suites in Gray GA where he was affectionately known as Mr. T.
There will be a viewing on Tuesday, Oct 5th from 2pm to 6pm at Reynolds Funeral Home in Tulsa OK. Graveside services will be held, Wednesday Oct.6th, 11AM at Longton Cemetery in Longton Kansas.
