I. C. EMPLOYE DIES SUDDENLY

McComb, Brookhaven Shocked by Death of John W. Whittington

McComb and Brookhaven were shocked last night by the sudden death of John W. Whittington, 48, foreman in the I. C. Carshops. Mr. Whittington, who had worked yesterday, died of a sudden heart attack at his residence here.

He came to McComb several months ago, after many years with the I. C. in Brookhaven as car inspector.

He was a man widely known here and in Brookhaven, especially in railroad circles. His son, John Whittington, was a stellar member of the McComb football team the past season.

At noon today funeral arrangements were incomplete, pending word from a brother who resides in Massachusetts. Tentatively, the services are scheduled to be held from the residence at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday with Dr. J. W. Mayfield, pastor of the First Baptist Church, conducting the rites.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jessie Whittington; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Louise Cain of Brookhaven and Mrs. Lois Billings of McComb; three sons, Marvin, Woodrow and John of McComb; three brothers, Frank of McComb; Joe, of near Summit; and Tom of Massachusetts; four sister[s], Mrs. May I. Gamble of Eddiceton, Mrs. Sallie Magee of Tylertown, Mrs. Bernice Prestridge of Bogue Chitto, and Mrs. Florence May of Austin.

Hartman Funeral Home is in charge.
