Johnnie Hughes Cauthen

MADISON -- Johnnie Hughes Cauthen, 75, died Thursday, May 13, 2004, at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center.

Visitation was 5-8 p.m. Friday at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Services were 10 a.m. Saturday, May 15 with burial in Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery in Madison.

She was born Feb. 1, 1929, in Polkville to the late Otis and Winnie Hughes, and was a lifelong resident of Mississippi. She was manicurist for over 40 years at the Heidelburg Hotel and later at the Edison Walthall Hotel in Jackson. Some of her more famous clients included Paul Harvey and Raymond Burr. The last 10 years of her life were spent fishing in her back yard at Lake Caroline with many friends, as well as growing flowers in her yard and enjoying her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil D. Cauthen and brothers Leo Hughes and Pat Hughes.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law Joe and Cathy Cauthen of Madison; grandsons, Blake and Kyle Cauthern of Madisonand brother Jack Hughes of Pearl. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 731 South Pear Orchard Rd., Ridgeland, 39157.
