Capt. Garner

Captain Johnny L. Garner, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Garner, Rt. 3 in Bryan, was killed Saturday when the helicopter he was piloting and another helicopter collided in midair near Da Nang, South Vietnam.

Funeral services, to be conducted with full military honors, are to be held at the Steep Hollow Baptist Church with the Revs. David Rowland and Louis Walston officiating. No date has been set for the funeral.

Burial is scheduled to follow at Steep Hollow Cemetery under direction of the Hillier Funeral Home.

Capt. Garner was born in Bryan June 18, 1940. Except for military service, he had lived here all his life.

He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1958, where he played football. He was a 1963 graduate of Texas A&M University. He entered the United States Marine Corps in 1963 and flew H-34 helicopters.

Capt. Garner is survived by his wife; his parents; a daughter, Linton Dale Garner; and two sisters, Mrs. Edward V. Adams Jr. of Waco, and Jackie Sue Garner of Bryan. Mrs. J. D. Barnett Jr. of Bryan is his maternal grandmother.
