Johnnie Mae Powell Taunton

Funeral services for Mrs. Johnnie Mae Powell Taunton, 88, of Old Alabama Road, were held Friday, March 17, 2006, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with Dr. Edwin L. Cliburn officiating. Burial followed in Crystal Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Taunton died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at Providence Nursing Care Center.

Coggins Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Taunton was born on Jan. 28, 1918, in Chambers County, Ala., to the late Claude and Annie Butler Powell. She was retired from Upson Regional Medical Center, where she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for over 25 years. Mrs. Taunton was a member of the Upson Senior Citizens Club and a member of Upson Regional Medical Center's Retired LPN Group. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Henry Marvin Taunton Sr., of Thomaston and her son, Mr. Henry Marlin Taunton.

Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Mattie T. McCranie and Mrs. Joyce T. (Ed) Slaughter, all of Thomaston; a son, Mr. Henry Marvin (Virginia) Taunton Jr. of Thomaston; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Melissa Taunton of Thomaston; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
