Johnnie Nelson Pigg Sr., 88, went to be with the Lord, who he lived for daily, Wednesday, April 18, 2007.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday at Travis Avenue Baptist Church. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Memorials: May be made to the Benevolence Room at Travis Avenue Baptist Church, 3041 Travis Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76110.
Johnnie was born Nov 20, 1918, and grew up in Everman. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a master technical sergeant during World War II.
He was a faithful husband to Ruby Lee Click of Fort Worth for 63 years. In his early married years he was ordained a deacon at Sequoyah Hills Baptist Church in Tulsa, Okla. He served the Baptist denomination as a member of the executive committee of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
Those who knew Johnnie knew he truly lived what he believed by his words and actions. His passion was for those who were in physical and spiritual need as for many years he worked in the Benevolence Room at Travis Avenue Baptist Church and spent many hours in the church prayer room. Also at Travis Avenue, he was an active deacon, Sunday school teacher and cherished friend to many.
He was a staunch Democrat and a retired grocery man.
Johnnie was also a member of the Model A Club of Fort Worth, as his hobby for many years was refurbishing old cars.
Survivors: Wife, Ruby Lee; daughter and son-in-law, Rhea Nell and Terry Milrany and their sons, Brad and Tyler; son and daughter-in-law, Johnnie and Sue Pigg and their daughters, Heather and Hannah; and a host of extended family and friends.
