Johnnie Nelwyn ``Nell'' Hodges

Trona, Calif. --

Johnnie Nelwyn ``Nell'' Hodges passed away Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at her home, with family by her side.

Johnnie ``Nell'' was born Aug. 16, 1928, in Dodson, La. She married Calvin C. Hodges on May 18, 1946. They had two daughters, Sharon Hodges and Margaret Peterson.

Johnnie moved to Trona with her family in 1960, where she worked as a short order cook in many of Trona's restaurants. Always the outgoing spirit, Johnnie's life revolved around her family.

Johnnie is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Calvin C. Hodges; granddaughter, Rebecca Terriquez; grandson, Jesse Frank Prosser; her mother and father; and her two sisters, Sue and Wilamina.

She is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Hodges of Trona; Margaret Peterson and husband, Pete of Bullhead City, Ariz.; granddaughter Shirley Hodge and husband Bobby of Trona; granddaughter, Johnnie Villegas of Trona; and granddaughter, Denise Rizo of San Jose; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; one brother-in-law, three sisters-in-law of Louisiana; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Services will be held on Friday, Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. at the Trona Valley Christian Assembly of God Church, 82619 3rd St. Potluck reception to follow the service at the Trona Senior Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that a donation to the American Cancer Society be made in Johnnie's name.
