Johnny Ray Renfro
Johnny Ray Renfro of Timpson, Texas went home to be with our Heavenly Father September 22, 2011 at his home in Timpson after a battle with lung cancer.
He was born December 15, 1941 in Waterman, Shelby County, Texas to the late Marshall and Lois Allison Renfro. He was a graduate of Timpson High School, Class of 1959, a member of the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Pasadena, Texas and a member of the Timpson Masonic Lodge. He moved to Houston, Texas in the early sixties and began a career with Houston Lighting & Power later to become CenterPoint Energy before serving in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War. Upon returning home from service, Johnny picked up his career with CenterPoint Energy and was a crew leader for substation maintenance.
He retired in 1997 and moved to Timpson. Johnny didn't get out and go a lot but that didn't stop him from visiting with family and friends and those he cared about and loved. The telephone was the instrument he used often for those visits, checking on the sick, having a fun conversation, calling to say “hello”, just keeping in touch whether it was someone right down the road, across town or in another city. He enjoyed talking to people and helping others. Johnny's love for children has been evident throughout his life. Precious memories will be held close to the heart of many young people whose lives have been touched by Uncle Johnny. He will be deeply, deeply missed.
Left to cherish his memory is his best friend and devoted wife of 48 years, Louise Hudson Renfro; his sister, Marcia Kesterton and husband Hollis of Longivew; sister-in-law, Gerry Powdrill of Timpson; mother-in-law, Helen Hudson of Timpson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Shirley Powers of Timpson. Others left to treasure his memory are many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family and friends. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Lee Powdrill and nephews, Michael Eldridge and Patrick J. Powers.
Funeral services for Johnny Ray Renfro will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, September 26, 2011, at Timpson Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Justin Coburn officiating. Interment will follow in Timpson Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Sunday, September 25, at Taylor Funeral Home, Timpson.
