Joseph B. “J.B.” Hayes

JACKSONVILLE - Services for Joseph B. “J.B.” Hayes, 88, of Jacksonville will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel in Jacksonville with Revs. Darrell R. Brown and Jim Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with K.L. Brown Funeral Home in charge. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Hayes died Wednesday at Countryside Manor in Anniston.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Hayes Brown and husband, Darrell, of Gadsden; a son, Joseph D. Hayes and wife, Dora, of Heflin; two brothers, Azor Hayes of Woodstock and David Hayes of Mobile; five grandchildren, Dana Alverson, April McElroy, Joy Hester, Mandy Hammond and Wendy Rogers, and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Alverson, Dr. Richard Christopher, Shawn Rogers, Brian Hammond, Jerry McMelroy and William Tibbs. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville and members of the Men's Fellowship Class.

Mr. Hayes, a Vance native, was a member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville and a deacon. He graduated from Brookwood High School in Tuscaloosa County. He worked as a house painter for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christeen T. Hayes; his parents, Sara and Albert Hayes; six brothers, and two sisters.
