Joseph Shelton

WINNFIELD -- Funeral services for Joseph Benjamin Shelton, 79, of Winnfield were to be held at 3 p.m. today in the chapel of Southern Funeral Home here with the Rev. Charles Haley officiating.

Burial was in Sardis Cemetery near here for Mr. Shelton who died at 2:30 a.m. Monday in the VA Hospital at Alexandria after a long illness.

A native of Winnfield, Mr. Shelton was a veteran of World War I and a member of Laurel Heights Baptist Church of Winnfield.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ruth Shelton of Winnfield, three sons, C. P. Shelton of Blanchard, Roy Shelton of Lincoln, Neb. and Winston Shelton of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter, Mrs. Elaine Gresham of White Oak, Tex.; two brothers, J. M. Shelton and Tillman Shelton, both of Winnfield; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Philan and Mrs. Ruthie Hughes, both of Shreveport, 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
