Joseph Flynt, Jr.
Joseph ``J.D.'' Doyle Flynt Jr., 65, died Tuesday, Oct. 14. He was deeply loved, and his passing leaves a profound sadness in the hearts of his loved ones.
Joseph was born in 1943 to Joseph and Janie Flynt in Galveston, Texas. He joined the U.S. Army in 1963 and served three years of active duty overseas.
After the Army, he served for the next 18 years as a police officer for both the Glendale and South Gate police departments in the Los Angeles area.
After he moved to SLO County, he worked as a nuclear security officer for Pacific Gas & Electric Co. at Diablo Canyon, retiring last January.
In his spare time, he had a great talent and love for knife making. Together with his wife, Eileen, he created A&F Knives, and was well respected and highly praised for the craftsmanship of the custom knives he made.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Eileen Taylor Flynt; five children Joseph Flynt III, Anthony Flynt, Christina Matthews, Molly Harrington, and Klista Shaban; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Chapel of the Roses in Atascadero.
