J. E. Parker, Retired, Dies

Joseph E. Parker, 78, of Smithfield died suddenly Friday afternoon at his home. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

Mr. Parker was a retired employee of Guy C. Lee Manufacturing Company.

The funeral service was held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Antioch Baptist Church. The Rev. Ellis Taft officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Surviving are five sons, Otis Parker of Wilson, Earl Parker of Southern Pines, Harold Parker of Asheboro, Praxton Parker of Henderson, and Willis Parker of Hartsford, Conn.; three daughters, Mrs. Paul Howard of Selma, Mrs. Louise Lewis of Goldsboro, and Mrs. Parker West of Wilmington; one brother, Y. Z. Parker of Alexandria, Va.; and 12 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
