Dr. Joseph P. Crawford

Dr. Joseph Preston Crawford, 80, of Brookhaven, died there Jan. 7, 2003, at Beverly Health Care.

Visitation is 5-9 tonight at Harrigill Funeral Home in Brookhaven. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home chapel. Graveside services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Hollywood Cemetery in McComb.

Dr. Crawford was born April 21, 1922, in McComb. He was the son of William Preston Crawford and Eunice Lillian Johnson Crawford.

He was a retired medical doctor. He practiced in Brookhaven from 1955 until his retirement in 1980. His family said he was well known for his kindness and sympathy toward those he treated. Dr. Crawford was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Bennie Crawford; and one brother, Benton Earl Crawford.

Survivors include two sons, Joe Preston Crawford of Brookhaven and William Gerald Crawford of Friendswood, Texas; one daughter, Cynthia Jeanette Crawford Kelly of Madison; one brother, William Paul Crawford of Brookhaven; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
