JOSEPH WALLEY

WAYNESBORO, Miss. -- Services for Joseph Walley, 87, retired merchant and farmer of Sandhill, former County Superintendent of Education of Greene County, who died at his home Sunday morning were held Tuesday morning at Waynesboro First Baptist Church. The Revs. E. F. Hicks, pastor, and J. K. Hegwood, pastor of the local Methodist Church, officiated with burial in Sandhill Cemetery, Greene County.

Walley was a native of Greene County, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Willis W. Walley. He had served as a member of the Mississippi Legislature from Greene County, and was active in political, civic and church affairs. He had been a member of Sandhill Baptist Church for 70 years, serving in various capacities, and a charter member of Sandhill Masonic Lodge. He had been living in Waynesboro for the past two years, and at the time of his death he was a member of Waynesboro First Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Houston Walley and Dr. W. W. Walley, both of Waynesbor; Ray Walley, Sandhill; four daughters, Mrs. Addie Mae Beasley, Mrs. Estelle Waller, Mrs. Mable Brewer and Mrs. Marion Hall, all of Waynesboro; 24 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren, a brother, Murdock Walley, Leakesville; and two sisters, Mrs. George Ragland, Ocean Springs; and Mrs. Cynthia Walley of Hattiesburg.
