Norma Josephine Jackson
Services for Ms. Josephine will be held on Monday August 31, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Williams and Lord Funeral Home. Burial will be at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church following the service. Visitation will be held Sunday August 30, 2015 from 3:00PM to 5:00PM at Williams and Lord Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Ms. Josephine, age 94 passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday August 29, 2015 of cancer.
She was born in Carroll County on May 22, 1921 to the late Walter W. Jackson and Josephine Emmons Jackson. Ms. Josephine is preceded in death by her sister Linnie Jackson, brothers: Willie Paul Jackson, Walter Jackson, and Ward Jackson, a neice [sic niece] Eugenia Davis, a nephew, William Rickitts, and a great nephew.
She is survived one sister in law, Rebecca Jackson, four nephews William Jackson of Carrollton, Morris Jackson of Dwight, Illinois, Everett Jackson of Carrollton, Ward Jackson of Grenada, and two nieces, Voncile Wright of Carrollton, and Louise Smith of Carrollton. Ms. Josephine also had 18 great nieces and nephews, 22 great great nieces and nephews, and 6 great great nephews.
Ms. Josephine was raised in the Avalon community. She attended Holmes Junior College, Delta State University and The University of Mississippi where she obtained her master’s degree in education administration. She was an educator of 42 years and taught mathematics at Jefferson, Valley High School, Clarksdale, and Greenwood High School. Ms. Josephine was an avid gardener and loved to crotchet. She was a long time sexton of the cemetery at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church and took great pride in her work. Ms. Josephine was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist church where she was very active in the Senior Citizens Program; she was also involved in the programs at Calvary Baptist and First Baptist as well.
