Josiah Hall
Josiah Hall, a resident of Lake Jackson for 38 years, died Monday, December 15, 2008.
A memorial service will be held Friday, December 19, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Lake Jackson.
Josiah was born January 21, 1926, in Ellisville, Mississippi. He lived in that area until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 16. He served as second class gunners mate petty officer on an LST and LSM landing craft. He participated in the battles in Africa and Anzio and Normandy. He also served at times as a motorcycyle courier and received a commendation while in that capacity. Upon completion of his service, he attended school in Houston, Texas, where he met and married Edith Welfl in 1947. During their 61 years together, Josiah and Edith raised six children.
Josiah is survived by his wife, Edith; his children, Pamela Hall Hagood and husband, Dr. Clyde, Josiah F. Hall and wife, Kimberley, Karen Hall Hagemann and husband, Howard, Greg Hall and wife, Janice, Bruce Hall and wife, Kim West, and Stephanie Hall and husband, Phil Cadarette. He also is survived by grandchildren, Natalee Hall Pendergrass and husband, Roy, Josiah Waldrip, Bryan Hall, Russell Hall, Jonathan Cadarette, Katherine Hall and Sarah Cadarette; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
After years of owning his own roofing business in the area, he continued to enjoy metal working as a vocation and avocation. He was noted for his work with copper and stainless steel.
Josiah believed strongly in the importance of donating blood. The most recent count of his donations with the Houston Blood Center exceeded 8 gallons. He was particularly proud of the fact he gave sufficient blood to ensure coverage for all of his family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Blood Center as a living memorial to Josiah's commitmentm or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
