Juanita Hammond Gallaspy
Juanita Hammond Gallaspy died Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at River Region Medical Center. She was 89.
Born in Sylvarena, Miss., Mrs. Gallaspy was the daughter of William Lee and Ottie Simmons Hammond. She graduated from the Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Jackson in 1945 and was licensed as a registered nurse for the Rankin County Health Department. She was an OB-GYN nurse for several hospitals in Mississippi, Louisiana and North Carolina before becoming a public health nurse for the Rankin County Health Department. She retired from the Rankin County Health Department after 20 years of service.
Mrs. Gallaspy was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Harold Tracy Gallaspy; her parents; four sisters; and one brother.
She is survived by a daughter, Susan Loflin Johnston (Walter) of Vicksburg; two sons, David Gallaspy (Debbie) of Church Hill, Tenn., and Bill Gallaspy (Suellen) of Hubert, N.C.; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; five sisters; and one brother.
Mrs. Gallaspy loved the Lord and was His faithful servant all her life. A service of death and resurrection will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Crawford Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cary Stockett officiating.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the service in the Wesley Hall Commons area. A graveside service will be at Louin Baptist Church Cemetery in Louin, Miss., at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Tim Shelby officiating.
