Juanita Lewis Crawford
June 20, 1923 - February 28, 2011

Services celebrating the life of Mrs. Juanita Lewis Crawford will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2011 in First Baptist Church, Oakdale with Reverend Michael McIntosh officiating. Memorial Services will be under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale.

Mrs. Crawford, 87, of Oakdale entered eternal rest on Monday, February 28, 2011 in Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital, Alexandria.

Juanita was a loving wife and a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with family, riding 4-wheelers, fishing by the pond, and encouraging others with cards and letters.

As a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Oakdale, “Neet”, as she was affectionately known, served as a Sunday School teacher for 50 years and a choir member for 40 years. Her faith in Christ was evident in all that she did.

Juanita also served her community. She devoted much of her time and energy to making Oakdale and the surrounding areas a wonderful place to live. Juanita was a nationally certified tree farmer, former Girl Scout, Cub Scout, and 4-H leader. Since 1994, she had been the director of the annual Allen Parish Forestry Awareness trail, a member of the Louisiana Forestry Association, and a facilitator for local Project Learning Tree and Project WET. She was a member and past president of the Oakdale Area Chamber, and was the 2003 recipient of the Oakdale Area Chamber of Commerce award. She served on the Federal Correctional Institute for 6 years and served on Allen Parish Arts Council. She was a member and past president of the Oakdale Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. She was a member of Auxiliaries of the VFW and American Legion and Order of Eastern Star. She was two-time president of Oakdale Garden Club and member of Circle of Roses. Her property is certified as a National Wildlife habitat. She served for 10 years on the Imperial Calcasieu Resource Conservation Development Council, served 4 years on the National Environmental Education Committee, 1 year on the National Forest Resource Committee, and 12 years on the Allen Parish Soil & Water Conservation Board. She was a benefactor of family scholarships for Oakdale High School since 1996, and the queen of Oakdale's Mardi Gras Krewe of Muse in 2003.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.E. “Pete” Crawford; one son, Jim Crawford; her parents, T.O. and Ida Lewis; her brother, Thomas Odom Lewis; her sister, Marjorie Lewis Sanderson and one great grandson, Tanner Joseph Crawford.

Those left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory are three sons, Jeff Crawford and his wife, Sylvia of Oakdale; Joe Crawford and his wife, Phyllis of Oakdale and John Crawford and his wife, Teresa of Apex, North Carolina; one daughter, Jane Crawford Anders and her husband, Louis of Oakdale; ten grandchildren, Judd Anders and his wife, Stacy of Reno, Nevada; Jason Anders & his wife, Marian of Metairie; Josh Anders and his wife, Melissa of Houston, Texas; Jared Crawford and his wife, Suzanne of Katy, Texas; Jacob Crawford of Conroe, Texas; Dustin Crawford and his wife, Chiara of Oakdale; Thomas Crawford and his wife, Megan of Oakdale; Hailey Crawford of Oakdale; Kyle Crawford and his wife, Casey of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina and Janna Crawford Bass and her husband, Tyler of Clinton, North Carolina and seven great grandchildren, Jackson Anders, Matthew Crawford, Colt Crawford, Jakob Anders, Justin Anders, Peyton Crawford and Vanessa Anders.

Friends may call at Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at First Baptist Church, Oakdale on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m.
