Julie Mimms Hargrove, 97, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. Visitation is 11 a.m. today at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Jackson. Services are 12:30 p.m. today at the funeral home with burial in Utica City Cemetery.
Mrs. Hargrove, a native of Utica, was born January 1[6], 1904 to Nathaniel and Minnie Clay Mimms. She taught school for a number of years both in the Utica and Jackson Public School System. Mrs. Hargrove also worked as an orthoptist, where she tested the eyes of children. She retired after a number of years of service. Mrs. Hargrove was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson, where she often served as a Sunday School teacher. She was an avid member of the Belhaven Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. "Gene" Hargrove.
Survivors include: cousins, Andrew Mimms Dyess of Madison, Christopher Turner Dyess of Atlanta, Robert Burgess Dyess Ballard of Jackson and Elizabeth Dyess Ballard of Jackson.
