Lt. Col. Julius W. Brown, Jr. USAF, Ret.

SHREVEPORT, LA - Lt. Col. Julius W. Brown, Jr. died on Thursday, July 4, 2003 at the Grace Home, Shreveport, LA after a long illness. Visitation will be held at Osborn Funeral Home on Monday, July 7, 2003 from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 8 in the Chapel of Osborn Funeral Home with Dr. Theresa McConnell of Noel Memorial United Methodist Church officiating. Interment, with military graveside rites, to follow at Forest Park Cem.

Lt. Col. Brown was born October 3, 1925 in Wisner, LA. He graduated from Minden High School and Louisiana Tech University with a degree in Business Administration.

Lt. Col. Brown served his country honorably, for thirty-one years, retiring from active service August 31, 1974 at Barksdale Air Force Base. His tour of duties included the Continental United States, as well as overseas in England, Japan, Phillipines, and Thailand. He began his career in the United States Air Force as a Navigator, then attended pilot training school, consequently becoming a Fighter Pilot and later became a Safety Staff Officer. He received numerous commendations over the years. After retirement from the Air Force, he worked for the State of Louisiana as a Disability Determination Officer. After leaving that position, he played golf everyday with his friends at the BAFB Golf Course. A few of his associations were the Order of the Daedalians, The National Fraternity of Military Police, life member The Retired Officers Association, life member and a Charter Sponsor of the Air Force Memorial Foundation.

He was preceded in death by his father, Julius W. Brown, Sr; his mother, Bernice Ferrington Brown; and a sister, Eloise St Romain Wooten.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Nevelyn Faith Brown and two daughters, L. Karen Brown, Scaly, TX and Carolin Faith Bradley, Shreveport, LA; a sister, Betty Brown Dupree and her husband, Jay, Boise, Idaho; a brother, George Brown and his wife Gloria, Tupelo, MS; and his dear nieces and nephews.

The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the health care workers who attended him during his last days and a special thank you to his doctors, James G. Smith and Paul C. Davis.

Memorials may be given to Noel Memorial United Methodist Church, Shreveport, LA or to a charity of the donor's choice.
