Kathy Flynt

Flowood -- Kathy McCarty Flynt, 64, passed away May 4, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family and friends after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born in Magee, Mississippi, on March 27, 1951, daughter of Mary Ann McCarty and the late, Hyman F. “Mac” McCarty, Jr. She was the third of five siblings, a wonderful wife and a loving mother who was known for her sweet and forgiving spirit, beautiful smile and wonderful singing voice. Mrs. Flynt graduated from Magee High School in 1969. She attended Gulf Park Junior College and graduated from William Carey College in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Kathy worked in the family owned business, McCarty Farms, where she was loved by all co-workers for her grace and her smile for everyone. She was also secretary of McCarty Enterprises and secretary of The H.F. McCarty, Jr. Family Foundation. Mrs. Flynt's life was truly one of constant honor, integrity and unwavering service to God, family, friends and her community.

Mrs. Flynt touched the hearts of numerous people and made a significant impact on many different segments of various communities during her lifetime. With her philanthropy, caring and dedication of time, she continued the legacy established and taught to her by her mother and late father. Her family was her life; however, she was able to extend that same love, devotion and loyalty to her many friends in their time of need. Mrs. Flynt was a faithful member of the Flowood Baptist Church and loved singing in the choir. She served as a member of the Fund Raising Committee for the new sanctuary, was chairwoman of the Flower Committee for many years, was a member of Women of Grace Ministries and supporter of all missions of the church. Mrs. Flynt was initiated into Epsilon Chapter of Phi Mu Fraternity as an alumna initiate in 1981. She was a faithful member of both the Rankin County and the Greater Jackson Phi Mu alumnae chapters. She attended many of the Phi Mu national conventions and would always add her beautiful voice to the convention choir. Her dedication, steadfastness and perseverance in service to the organizations in which she was involved made a profound difference in the lives of many people and the communities in which they lived.

Mrs. Flynt is survived by her dedicated and loving husband, Donald H. Flynt of Flowood; son, Allen McCarty Flynt and his wife, Dacia Flynt and children, Carter and C.J. Blanks of Louisville, KY; and her daughter, Angela Flynt Hernandez and her husband, Javier Hernandez and daughters, Holly Katherine Little and Mallory Ann Little of Wesson; her mother, Mary Ann McCarty of Madison; brother, John R. McCarty of Terry; and sister, Patti McCarty Sullivan and her husband, Jerry M. Sullivan, Jr. of Ridgeland; sister-in-law, Shellye S. McCarty of Magee; sister-in-law, Charlotte Flynt Koster of Flowood; brother-in-law, Terry B. Wells of Ridgeland; nieces, Mary Helen McCarty Griffis and her husband, Judge T. Kenneth Griffis of Ridgeland; Kimberly Koster of Wilmington, NC; Elizabeth Ann Buyan and her husband, Greg Buyan of Jackson; Ashley W. Hullender and her husband, Tripp Hullender of Memphis; Leslie W. Baskin and her husband, Brad Baskin of Jackson; Kelly S. Hirn and her husband, Chad Hirn of Ridgeland; nephews, Michael McCarty of Magee; Bradley Flynt Koster of Dallas, TX; Alex Stevens and his wife, Lauren Stevens of Nashville, Tennessee; Mack Sullivan of Jackson; Ryan Sullivan and his wife, Alayna Sullivan of Charleston, South Carolina; Jason Brombach and his wife, Nora Bromach of Oxford; faithful caregiver, Virgie Gibbs of Jackson; along with numerous cousins, aunts, great nieces and nephews, other extended family members and a host of friends.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Ellen McCarty and Marsha McCarty Wells; sister-in-law, Linda McCarty; her father-in-law, Chastaine Flynt and mother-in-law, Alberta Flynt.

Memorials may be made to the Flowood Baptist Church Building Fund, the Wilson Research Foundation, Millsaps College, Willowood Developmental Center or The H.F. McCarty, Jr. Family Foundation.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 7, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Flowood Baptist Church, 1649 Old Fannin Road, Flowood, MS. On Friday, May 8, 2015 visitation will be held 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. at Flowood Baptist Church, with the service following at 11:00 A.M. with Dr. Ricky Gray and Reverend Jimmy Harrison officiating; David O'Steen, organist and Laura Herberson, pianist. Interment at Lakeland Place Cemetery, 6004 Hwy. 25 North (Lakeland Drive), Flowood, MS.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Griffis, Benny Hubbard, Michael McCarty, Hoyt Rawson, Gary Rhoads and Alex Stevens. Honorary Pallbearers are Tom Sparks, Joe McGinty, and Don Rankin.
