Kenneth L. Spiess
Kenneth L. Spiess, 60, of Texas, a devoted servant of God, was called home to rest on Monday, January 21, 2002. He was born December 23, 1941 in Ranger, Texas to Roy Ray and Mary Frances Green Spiess. From Kenneth's early childhood until he was in high school, his family traveled all over the United States due to Roy's work. He attended 43 different schools and enjoyed his travels. He joined the U.S. Air Force after graduating from Calallen High School in 1960 and married Janet L. Woodson on August 4, 1961. After his service in the U.S. Air Force he went to work for the Corpus Christi Army Depot as a jet engine mechanic. Ken was then promoted to the Special Engine Service Center which was a group of trouble shooters. This had him traveling the globe repairing aircraft engines. After 31 years of service at CCAD he retired in 1993. He was an avid bird watcher and animal lover and was involved in the Hawk Watch International at Hazel Bazemore Park. For around 10 years Ken was a referee of high school, junior high school and little league sports, such as football, baseball and basketball. He was devoted to the word of God and studied from the King James version of the Bible daily.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Michael Arthur Spiess and Kenneth Lee Spiess, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Janet L. Spiess of Corpus Christi; two daughters, Darla (James) Baker of Plano, Texas, and Michelle (James) Becton of Corpus Christi; his beloved grandson, Benjamin Becton of Corpus Christi; one brother, Stanton Spiess of Trinidad, Colorado; one sister, Iris Hunt of Hobbs, New Mexico.
Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday in Sawyer-George Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 24, 2002, in Sawyer George Funeral Home Chapel with his brother, Stanton Spiess, officiating.
Burial will follow in Seaside Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be David Holland, Kenneth Spitzer, Arthur Blackwood, James Adams, James Holman and Bobby Alford.
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnnie Stockley, LeRoy Miller and Matt Kimble.
In lieu of flowers friends are asked to make contributions to Hawk Watch International, in care of Joel Simon, 5229 Northwest Trail, Corpus Christi, Texas 78410.
